I made this for a friend's upcoming birthday (same person as the patchwork skirt) as a more practical option that doesn't need to be dry cleaned. I think I did this more out of being bothered by how poor quality so many of the skirts are today. She's smaller than me, so I had mommy dearest model it for me (with the help of some pins). The waistband is made of a dark blue stretch denim, and the four tiers are made of simple woven cotton prints that are usually found in the quilters prints. It closes with two large hook and eyes, and a few snaps on a pre-made strip. The way I made it makes it easy to make it smaller (as she's losing weight right now) or take it out an extra inch or so. All the edges are finished with a serger, and the waist is topstitched to keep everything in place. This piece took a lot of fabric; the last set of ruffles (about 10.5 inches from top to bottom) measures about 8 yards long. She'll be recieving it the middle of next month, so I should probably keep it a bit of a secret : )
